Summary Respiratory System

The human respiratory system is made up of of the following parts and their functions.
  • nose - allows air to enter and exit the body
  • windpipe - transport air to the lungs and away from the lungs
  • diaphragm - relaxes/ contracts to make chest bigger or smaller
  • lungs (contain air sacs)-- allow oxygen to enter the blood and carbon dioxide to leave
Fish respiratory system 
  • Gills - Water carrying dissolved oxygen enters the mouth and passes through the gills. Gills take in oxygen.
Plant respiratory system
  • Stomata - tiny openings found mostly on the underside of leaves where gaseous exchange takes place. Found mainly on the underside of leaves to reduce the amount of water loss.
  • Respiration takes place throughout the day and night.
